About Us
John Heylin
John Heylin is a graduate of the University of Washington, a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, and a graduate of Presidio Graduate School with an MBA in sustainability. He considers himself a “community swiss army knife” when it comes to getting things done. Whether it’s advocating for housing, ADA access to the river, better representation in local government, or legalizing kei trucks, he is there. He believes that cost should not be a barrier to improving one's life, and the tool library is that belief in action.
When not working, John can be found organizing community events, writing, and brainstorming the next project on the horizon.
Tony Grzesik
Tony Grzesik moved from Baltimore, Maryland to Bend in early 2024 with his partner Aubrey. He currently leads the MakerSpace program at the Deschutes Public Library. Previously, Tony has worked as a Project Engineer for a construction general contractor and as an Operations Manager for a custom wood furniture business. His passion for tool libraries began in 2023 when he started teaching woodworking classes at the Station North Tool Library in Baltimore and grew to love the community of makers. He’s a quick learner who loves to learn new skills and share his skills with others. Beyond work, Tony enjoys sewing custom outdoor gear, mountain and gravel biking, skiing, woodworking, working on cars, and spoiling his dog and pair of cats. He is always looking to expand his hands-on skills and meet other people with creative pursuits. Share your project idea with him or ask him about vintage sewing machines, his pets, or fixing up 90s mountain bikes.
Peter LoVerso
Peter LoVerso is a hands-on tinkerer, lifelong learner, and open source software advocate who’s been calling Bend home since 2018. He moved here from Baltimore, Maryland with his wife—a woodworker and welder—and now spends his time exploring the outdoors, keeping chickens, and building all sorts of projects around the house.
Peter studied molecular biology and started out as a cancer researcher before moving into robotics engineering. Along the way, he’s built everything from home automation systems and custom electronics to entire buildings. He especially enjoys projects that combine creativity and practicality—like the apple pressing system he and his wife designed together, complete with a homemade grinder, smart apple washer, and a big ol' press that they use every year to make their own cider.
Whether he’s teaching, learning, or troubleshooting something weird, Peter is always excited to dig into new skills and help others do the same. He’s thrilled to support the Central Oregon Tool Library as a place for folks to share tools, knowledge, and a love for making things.
